Tottenham Hotspur fans may remember the links between the club and Porto right-back Ricardo Pereira last summer.

There were strong rumours in Portugal saying Spurs would like to sign the player, who was just returning from a loan spell in France with a €25m release clause.

However, the story went cold a few months later. By the January window, even though the player was doing well for Porto, Tottenham were barely mentioned as pretenders, and it was actually Leicester City more involved in the rumours.

Maybe things are creeping back for Spurs, because in March, A Bola claimed they were still ‘attentive’ to his situation at Porto.

The Premier League side sent scouts to Porto’s match against Benfica at the Estádio da Luz last night, and newspaper O Jogo claims the emissaries were there to watch Pereira.

The right-back had a great match, both in defence, where he was able to win his individual duel with Pizzi, as in attack, where he had a great partnership with Moussa Marega in building up plays.

It’s very possible that with Tottenham’s presence in the game, O Jogo simply looked at the Porto or Benfica player who the club were recently linked to and picked one as a scouting target.

But we can’t rule the possibility that the interest may be renewed for the summer, can we? Tottenham have been linked with other right backs, despite the purchase of Serge Aurier and could be that Mauricio Pochettino’s isn’t completely happy with his PSG recruit.

In the summer Tottenham were said to have offered around the €12-15m mark for Pereira, and they’d likely have to part with double that now.
