It’s not news per se, but Tottenham are interested in Youcef Atal.

The Nice right-back has been an exciting breakthrough talent for the Ligue 1 side since his arrival from KV Kortrijk in 2018, scoring seven goals and assisting another three in 44 games under Patrick Vieira.

His 2019-20 campaign was cut short in December with a knee injury that required surgery, but the 23-year-old is expected to be back for next season, and he could do so with Spurs.

At least, that’s what José Mourinho seems to want, as Le Foot in France believe both Paris Saint-Germain and Tottenham are still after him.

They write that the Ligue 1 champions ‘haven’t given up on him’, while Spurs ‘are very closely interested’ in the right-back; a position they direly need to bolster.

Selling Kieran Trippier to Atlético Madrid last summer and loaning Kyle Walker-Peters to Southampton in January, Tottenham never brought in a replacement, meaning Serge Aurier was doing most of the work by himself during the second half of the season.

That cannot be allowed to continue beyond the current campaign, which is why it seems right-back is a priority for the north London side in the upcoming transfer window.

However, we doubt Atal is going to be cheap, regardless of his current injury status.
