When it was announced that Tottenham would bring Pierluigi Gollini in on loan from Atalanta, there was hope for him to start a bit more than he has done.
After all, Hugo Lloris isn’t getting any younger, but the Frenchman has proven very reliable once again this season, leaving Antonio Conte little reason to rotate in the position.
The Italian has made 10 appearances in all competitions this season, with none of those coming in the Premier League, but that doesn’t mean Tottenham don’t like what he brings to the table.
We say this because TuttoMercatoWeb in Italy explain that despite there being a €15m option to buy in the deal arranged by Fabio Paratici, ‘an appointment is scheduled between the management of the English club and the entourage of the goalkeeper at the end of the campaign’.
The belief is that Tottenham will put ‘on the plate the possibility of an extension of the loan for another season’, which is the desired outcome by the London side.
The problem here is that ‘Atalanta have not forgotten him’, because ‘there are other suitors in Italy’ who would be prepared to welcome him.
For now, however, the ‘preferential lane’ is Tottenham, perhaps because, despite the fact he recently renewed until 2024, Lloris is 35 and there is a belief Gollini could be the long-term replacement if he remains patient?
Something to keep an eye on.
