Ahead of the Champions League semifinals’ clash between Real Madrid and Manchester City, Spanish newspaper ABC today features an interview with Fernandinho.
There was, of course, a lot of talk about the match which will be played on Wednesday evening at the Santiago Bernabeu, and the tactical role that the midfielder has in Pep Guardiola’s side.
It was also inevitable to speak about Fernandinho’s future, as the player recently admitted he should not extend his recent contract with Manchester City, which expires at the end of the season.
So ABC asked the Brazilian what would be the ‘best farewell’ for him from the club.
“Yes, it’s my last season with City, it’s been a decision made as a family. To close this stage in the best way, I think it’d be fantastic to win the titles we are fighting for. You have to work for it,” Fernandinho told ABC.
Fernandinho was also asked about his ‘humble’ start in Brazil and his first years at Athletico Paranaense.
“Family, without a doubt, is the most important thing in my life. The difficulty of the past served me as a school for life. I’m very grateful to my parents and my uncles, who were always with me. Now I try to transmit those values to my children. Atlético Paranaense was a very important stage for me and I am very grateful to them for teaching me many valuable things in life.”
Speaking of Athletico Paranaense, Fernandinho’s former club are reported in Brazil as the favourites to land him this summer.
The player, however, is said to be waiting for the end of his contract with Manchester City to engage in serious talks for the move.
