Spanish clubs tend to give out far more detailed injury reports than their English counterparts, and that’s the case with Andreas Pereira.
The Manchester United loanee was injured by a challenge from Barcelona’s Sergi Roberto on Thursday, and Super Deporte have published the club doctor’s initial diagnosis.
Pereira has ‘ruptured of fibres of the vast intermediate’ and has an ‘intramuscular hematoma’ on top of a ‘contusion in the anterior rectus’.
So how long has the Manchester United player got left to live? It all sounds a lot more serious than need be.
‘Ruptured of fibres of the vast intermediate’ means he’s torn a muscle in his thigh.
”Intramuscular hematoma’ is a muscle bleed caused by the impact, it’s not so rare.
It’s thought Pereira will be out for at least a month, which will come as a blow to the player as he tries to fully establish himself at Valencia.
The local Valencia media are furious Roberto wasn’t red carded for the challenge and there’s been talk of double standards in officiating.
Roberto has sent his best wishes to Pereira and insisted there was nothing intentional, which is likely right because the Barca utility man isn’t really known for being a rough footballer.
Manchester United will want to keep an eye on what’s happening with their player and have no doubt already got the dramatic medical report.
