On Monday, we brought to you a story from France, with Foot Mercato explaining that Brighton were on the verge of signing Batista Mendy from Nantes.

The 18-year-old defender, who can also play in midfield, was said to have been a target for the likes of Tottenham and Real Madrid, yet the Seagulls had somehow managed to convince him to join them.

While nothing was done yet, the deal was said to be well on its way, and local outlet Ouest France on Tuesday have more information on the matter.

According to them, Mendy travelled to Brighton over the weekend with his mother to visit the club’s infrastructures, at which point Chris Hughton’s side put an offer on the table, one the youngster was impressed by.

With an agreement potentially being reached ‘quickly’, the youngster is also said to have rejected an offer from another English side (Spurs?), preferring to study what the Seagulls were ready to give him.

So, it appears that Brighton & Hove Albion are well on their way to getting Batista, a story that was also featured in this week’s France Football, meaning we’ve now got three different sources pushing the story.
