In February we covered claims from Spain that Liverpool are one of a number of clubs interested in taking Andre Gomes from Barcelona.

The Portuguese midfielder hasn’t been able to impress since his move from Valencia, and the Catalan media were making it clear the exit door is opening for him.

Not only had fans started to turn against the player, but his teammates were also said to be hesitant to pass him the ball, worried he could slow down attacks.

Gomes is having a crisis of confidence and it shows in his football, but interest from Anfield was said to be ‘serious’.

Now there’s another hint Liverpool could have a red carpet laid out should they make an effort during the summer window. El Confidencial report Barcelona’s fans whistled Gomes during the match against Atletico Madrid, something which prompted manager Ernesto Valverde to turn to the crowd and voice an expletive.

Gerard Pique also urged the crowd to cheer the player, but his efforts were largely ignored.

When fans turn like this there’s usually only one outcome.

Jurgen Klopp would have to be confident he can get the 24 year old back to his best if a Liverpool transfer is to make any sense.
