Atlético Madrid have made it clear they will not sell Kieran Trippier to Manchester United for anything less than his €60m release clause this summer.

That’s according to AS, who say the Spanish side have referred to the clause ‘again and again’ when United have asked about the England international this summer.

They cover the situation around the full-back today and under the title ‘a thousand times no’ explain how Atlético simply aren’t interested in a sale.

The newspaper say Manchester United and Arsenal both want Trippier, but Atlético aren’t interested in losing him as they consider the former Tottenham man as ‘essential’ to their team.

They’ve therefore ‘refused to negotiate’ for Trippier, and time and time again, they’ve told his suitors, namely Manchester United, that he is not for sale, making it clear that they would have to pay his €60m release clause to get him.

That’s a ‘complicated’ figure for any club to pay for a 30-year-old, despite the fact he enjoyed a superb campaign with Atlético last season and a ‘very good European Championship’ with England.

Interestingly, though, this is the first time we’ve seen a €60m figure, with most reports around Trippier and Manchester United stating he has a €40m clause.

€40m was already a big figure for any club to be paying, but €60m is considerably more, particularly when you consider the money United have already paid out on signings this summer.

Such a figure makes Trippier returning to England even less likely than it already was, with Atlético’s stance also seemingly putting a stop to anything getting remotely close to starting up.
