Jürgen Klopp was at Liverpool for nine years before leaving them at the end of last season.
The German manager guided Liverpool to win all three domestic competitions, including their first Premier League title. The Reds also won the Champions League under his orders in 2018.
Julian Nagelsmann is currently in charge of Germany. There’s been discussions about the possibility of the former Liverpool boss replacing him, discussions which have been ongoing for years.
DFB [German FA] sporting director Rudi Völler has addressed this topic during a chat with ZDF, relayed by today’s Ostthüringer Zeitung.
Last month, the ex-Reds manager indicated he wasn’t thinking about returning to the bench.
The DFB official has praised Klopp’s managerial career at Mainz, Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool. He also said the last contact with his compatriot was a “while ago.”
At this moment in time, the Germany job isn’t vacant. That could change after the 2026 World Cup. Despite Klopp’s comments about his future, Ostthüringer Zeitung suggest he could be tempted to take the national team job in 2026.
“No matter who becomes national coach after the World Cup, they will find a well-functioning team,” Völler explained.
Meanwhile, Arne Slot replaced Klopp at Anfield, and Liverpool have won four of their five league games this season.
