Chelsea have paid a “hefty sum of money” for Noni Madueke and PSV Eindhoven simply couldn’t resist the figure paid by the Blues.

That’s according to analyst Aad de Mos, who says he would have sold Madueke “with a bow” on top of him if he had been in charge of the deal.

Madueke became the latest player to join Chelsea this month in a deal last week, joining in a deal worth over €30m after PSV demanded a big sum for another of their players.

The move has largely been met with confusion in the Netherlands, with many questioning why Chelsea have paid such a figure for a player who is yet to properly develop and has been beset by injury problems over the last few years.

PSV have been more than happy to let the player despite it weakening them, with manager Ruud van Nistelrooy even admitting they simply couldn’t turn down the sums offered.

Aad de Mos states the same thing, believing that Chelsea have overpaid given the figure Liverpool paid to sign Cody Gakpo earlier this month.

“If PSV hadn’t done it, I would have done it. With a bow on it,” he told Eindhovens Dagblad, relayed by Voetbal 4U.

“If you play so little and are injured so often, of course that’s a hefty sum of money. That is normally paid for players of a different status, like Cody Gakpo.

“That €38m was found, it was on the street and you have to pick it up. I still do that for luck too, then you have to be humble from time to time. This is an outside chance, you have to take it.”
