Former Sweden defender Patrik Andersson, in his role as an ambassador of this season’s Europa League final, is hoping Manchester United get to the showpiece of the competition. The final will be held in Solna next May, and Andersson hopes Zlatan Ibrahimovic will be present in his home country.

Speaking to TMW, Andersson was asked about the final and who he wanted to get there. The Swede said it was an honour Solna has been selected to host this season’s final, and believes it would be fitting for Manchester United to get there, especially given Ibrahimovic is now at the Premier League side.

Andersson also hopes his former club Borussia Monchengladbach make the final, and he thinks this could happen.

“We are honoured to host the final in a beautiful stadium. It would be nice to have Manchester United, with Ibra who would return to his homeland. Even my former club, Borussia Monchengladbach, have a good chance,” said Andersson.

Manchester United qualified in second place in their group to make the knockout stages of the Europa League. Jose Mourinho’s side have impressed at Old Trafford during the competition, but must improve their away form if they are to make the final in Sweden.

Manchester United recorded just one away win during the group games, losing to Feyenoord and Fenerbache.
