It’s pretty clear that Jonathan Calleri’s spell at West Ham won’t be something he’ll like to remember in his autobiography. The player still speaks of his dream to play in Europe as something for the future, as he isn’t getting any game time at the East London side.

In an interview with Brazilian outlet Lance! this weekend, the striker revealed some of his plans and made it clear that he misses São Paulo, the last club for whom he played in South America.

Despite leaving the club in the summer window, Calleri was still São Paulo’s top scorer this year. With 16 goals, he stayed six in front of his compatriot Andrés Chavez, who was signed to replace him.

“Now, it’s been four months since I left, I’m very happy in Europe and my dream is to play there,” Calleri told Lance from his house in Argentina. “I’m adapting, trying to play, and when my contract expires, we’ll see.”

But Marco Aurélio Cunha, the man who keeps contact and works on signings for the club, knows it wouldn’t be easy, Calleri says: “I’m always speaking to him, he’s a person who always cares about the player and about São Paulo. We always speak about a return someday. But he also knows it’s very difficult, because it not only depends on me, and my dream is to play in Europe.”

Calleri was also asked if Palmeiras, São Paulo’s local rivals, tried to sign him recently: “Yeah, they spoke to my agents, and they know I always say that São Paulo is the only place I’ll play for in Brazil.”

The player now has nine appearances for West Ham. In 323 minutes, he’s failed to score any goals or make any assists. The last time he player for the club was in a 1-0 win over Sunderland on October 22nd.
