We’ve covered it extensively over the past few months, but the Bafétimbi Gomis to Marseille saga keeps rolling on, with the new bits of information emerging almost on a daily basis.
Whether it is a player interview or a newspaper revealing some new info from a source, the future of the Swansea loanee is a constant source of news in France.
Over the weekend, the Swans’ striker explained he would be more than happy to continue his adventure in the south of France, yet, on Tuesday, he has also laid down some rules for that to happen.
Speaking to RMC Sport, Gomis made it clear he never said he would stay at Marseille, but that it was a “Why not?” situation, wanting only to focus on scoring more goals and qualify his club in Europe.
However, if he were to stay, it would not be as a number two striker, with the Ligue 1 club determined to sign a new marquee goalscorer in the summer.
He said: “I’ve never been a backup striker, and I never will be. I think they will bring in some important players, and if I’m here, I hope that I will be playing alongside a great striker. That way, if Bafé doesn’t have a good game, there will be someone else who can score.”
With 18 goals to his name this season, the Swansea forward wants to ensure he gets over that 20 goal mark, knowing full well that if he does that, he can use it to his advantage by making it clear that a 20 goal a season striker cannot be a number two.
