A month ago, it was rare to see Brighton mentioned by European sport newspaper and wider media outlets. But the club’s ambitions seem to have changed a lot with promotion to the Premier League, as they are now linked to several players for the transfer market.
Today, it’s something more concrete reported by Portugal’s Mais Futebol. They’re claiming that Belenenses youngster Bernardo Caldeira has been invited for a one week trial at Brighton.
The 16-year-old right-back, who has already featured for Portugal’s U17 side, will be watched by Brighton coaches for a few days so they can evaluate him.
The information has been shared with the Portuguese media by the player’s agent, but there’s no further explanation of what Caldeira needs to do to secure a Brighton contract.
Over the past year or so, Brighton have been one of a handful of Championship clubs to scout Portuguese football, and Caldeira looks to be a result of their interest in the country’s talents.
