Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga can stay at Real Madrid at the end of the season, as the Spanish giants have a purchase clause in his current loan deal.
That’s according to COPE, who reveal the purchase option today as debate about the Real Madrid goalkeeper position continues in Spain.
Kepa joined Real Madrid on loan in the summer as a late, emergency replacement for Thibaut Courtois, who had suffered a long-term knee injury.
Initial reports indicated that an option to make the move permanent could be included in the deal between the two clubs but was never confirmed, with the goalkeeper simply moving on loan and the idea seemingly falling away.
Debate about whether he will remain beyond the end of the season has been ongoing since, particularly as the Chelsea loanee has largely impressed.
He’s made it clear that he wants to stay on more than one occasion, with reports in Spain stating it is his priority at this moment in time as he considers his time at Chelsea as over.
That may be offered to him too as COPE now report that ‘Florentino Pérez has a purchase option’ available to him should he wish to activate it.
There’s no mention of the figure that would be involved, or even if Pérez intends to activate it but it seems the clause does exist and will be something to keep an eye on moving forwards.
