Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga has made it a ‘priority’ to remain at Real Madrid in the summer as his situation at Stamford Bridge is ‘not entirely favourable’.
That’s according to Marca, who say the Spaniard is competing with Andriy Lunin for a place in the Madrid squad next year once Thibaut Courtois returns from injury.
He’s expected to completely return next year and offer his previous level, re-establishing himself as the number one and leaving Kepa and Lunin’s futures in doubt.
The former is currently on loan from Chelsea, having been signed at the last minute in the summer when Courtois was injured.
He himself is currently recuperating from a knock, which has meant Lunin has been brought into the team temporarily and been able to stake his claim for a role moving forwards.
The reality now is that both are competing for a place in Carlo Ancelotti’s plans and Kepa has made it a ‘priority’ to remain at the Santiago Bernabeu.
He wants to turn his loan deal into a permanent one and believes his prospects at Chelsea, who signed Robert Sanchez from Brighton in the summer, ‘are not entirely favourable’.
He had ‘already packed his bags’ in the summer ahead of a move to Bayern Munich before eventually ending up at Real Madrid, who made a last-minute call and provided a twist in the script that was ‘unexpected’ by everyone.
He now wants his stay to be a long-term one and intends to try and make that happen, particularly as his current deal with the Blues will have just one year left by the time he is due to return next summer.
