Even though Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa is much loved in South America, there are also a bunch of people who dislike him.
The reason why the coach’s career is doubted is the lack of big titles, since despite having a huge tactical knowledge, he’s only won a medal when managing Argentina at the 2004 Olympics.
Bielsa was a topic in an interview which legendary Chilean journalist Hans Marwitz has given to ADN Radio this week.
Marwitz, who’s been covering Chilean football since 1960, was asked if he prefers Marcelo Bielsa or Yugoslav manager Mirko Jozic, who’s worked both for Colo Colo and the Chilean national team. And the journalist had no doubts about who to pick.
“Jozic. Bielsa is a guy who doesn’t convince me. Now I think he’ll be promoted with Leeds, but Leeds is the same as Iberia, it’s a team that doesn’t have a drag, they aren’t known as a team which is gigantic. In France as a coach he was a resounding failure. There was an absurd Bielsamania.”
Marcelo Bielsa managed Chile’s national team between 2007 and 2011. Despite having no major titles, he’s only navigated one tournament, which was the 2010 World Cup, where Chile were eliminated by Brazil in the quarter-finals following a 3-0 defeat.
