When Kalidou Koulibaly was thought to be of interest to multiple Premier League clubs, there were repeat claims in the media close to Napoli that Manchester United had offered €100m for the defender.
Despite the claim initially seeming wild, it was encouraged by people at the Serie A side and quickly became accepted fact in Italy.
Now it looks like similar is happening with Victor Osimhen as Newcastle United and others are linked with the attacker.
Tuesday’s edition of Corriere dello Sport says Newcastle were the club who made the first move, and that was in January. It’s then stated Arsenal and Manchester United are also keen.
The Italian newspaper go on to say: ‘The hundred million that ADL ignored practically the other day will probably grow, and if everything that seems to be already read in the folds turns into hard cash, the tinkling of pounds will act as a soundtrack to the soul.’
Given Newcastle are the only club to have made a move, the €100m would apply to them, and that’s certainly how it’s being taken by others in Italy, such as Spazio Napoli.
This all feels similar to the Koulibaly drama, and the €100m is being built to presumably encourage clubs, whether that be Newcastle or not, to offer more.
It clearly didn’t work with the defender, and only time will tell if the Osimhen track will be different for Napoli.
