Trabzonspor goalkeeper Uğurcan Çakır was on Manchester City’s agenda in the summer window.
That’s according to AS, who state Girona were keen on signing the 26-year-old, before they faced difficulties to complete the deal.
Therefore, the possibility of Manchester City taking the keeper and then loaning him out to the Spanish club was discussed in the last window. A move didn’t materialise since there wasn’t sufficient time to seal the operation.
It’s claimed the City Football Group, who own both the Spanish club and Manchester City, have contacted the Turkey international’s brother and agent, Necdet Çakir, for a potential deal in January.
“The City Group, the owners of Manchester City, bought the Spanish team Girona. Their aim is to create a champion team in every country in Europe. They have a study on Uğurcan Çakır. It was the last days of the transfer window, the time was tight, it did not happen, but they have not given up on this transfer,” Koca said, as quoted by Ajansspor.
Koca suggests the option of Manchester City signing the Trabzonspor goalkeeper and then loaning him out to Girona was ‘discussed’, but it was ‘very difficult’ to seal the transfer due to lack of time in the last window.
Uğurcan is represented by the agency, Proathleta Sport Management, which is owned by his brother, Necdet. It’s to be noted there isn’t anything to suggest that Koca is part of the same agency.
