For the past few weeks, multiple reports have stated Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Rúben Neves is a target for Barcelona.
On October 25th, Sport reported ‘everything is very advanced’ for the midfielder to arrive at the Camp Nou in the winter market.
Two days later, the same outlet reported Barca feel they can sign the Wolves star in a ‘very advantageous way’.
The Portugal international has opened the door for a transfer after stating “who wouldn’t want to play for Barcelona?”. With several claims of the La Liga side’s interest in the 25-year-old, Mundo Deportivo give with their own take on this case.
They explain the Blaugrana are looking for a pivot to replace Sergio Busquets. This has seen them linked to several players and one that has been linked repeatedly is Neves.
Mundo state the ‘strange thing’ is Barcelona’s internal reports indicate the Wolves man is perceived as a player with a ‘good long pass and powerful physique’. However, he is not a ‘positional midfielder’, which is what Xavi Hernández wants.
The newspaper adds that ‘it is surprising’ that Neves is made to sound like a pivot, when he is not.
Therefore, Barca’s technical leaders are not able to understand why Neves is linked with them when Xavi wants a different profile and has a clear priority; Real Sociedad’s Martín Zubimendi.
