Former Fenerbahce defender Martin Skrtel has confirmed his agent has been in talks with Rangers with regards to a move to Ibrox this summer.
In the past several months the Slovakia international has been linked with a move to Rangers and a possible reunion with former Liverpool teammate Steven Gerrard.
Speaking about his future as covered by Fotomac, the central defender said his agent has been in discussions with other clubs: “There are offers, but I’m not in a hurry to choose my new team. I have some criteria and I have to be patient. My manager had talks with Başakşehir, Fenerbahçe, Parma, Olympiakos and Glasgow Rangers. But I can’t say anything more for now.”
There have been recent reports Rangers made a proposal to Skrtel as they look to snap him up on a free transfer for next season. However, it was claimed the player has turned down the Scottish Premiership club’s initial proposal.
Any move for Skrtel to Ibrox must now be in doubt after reports emerged this week Bologna defender Filip Helander is on the verge of joining Rangers.
Today there have been claims in the Scottish media the Sweden international is set for a medial today ahead of his proposed transfer. Gerrard will be looking to close the gap on Celtic next season and bringing in the experienced 26 year old looks to be a statement of intent.
