Eliaquim Mangala has been a standout performer for Valencia over the past season. The Spanish club will likely grow to regret not using their buying option to sign Mangala permanently, unless Manchester City capitulate and allow a much cheaper sale.

Having seen his reputation take a knock in England, Mangala has rebuilt the perception of his talents and, if the right people have been paying enough attention, he shouldn’t have too many problems finding a new club this summer.

However, it sounds mike Mangala still holds out hope of a Manchester City future. Speaking to L’Equipe, the Frenchman was asked if he can convince Pep Guardiola to trust him.

“That is another issue, yes,” replied Mangala with a smile. “This is a coach who has his own ideas. I am fortunate to have spent a month with him, and I can tell you that I have made more progress, especially tactically, in a month with him than in two years at City.

“I want to believe I can convince him. But today I’m on the market, there will be offers this summer.”

It could well be worth Guardiola having second thoughts about Mangala and wondering if he’s just the type of player, given his Valencia form, who could add something to the Manchester City squad.

Otherwise, another club could be getting a bargain this summer.
