Modou Diagne will not be a name familar to most English football fans. However, it seems Diagne has caught the attention of scouts working for English clubs, which has led to interest.
Diagne is of ‘strong’ interest to Stoke City, Middlesbrough, and Reading, according to L’Equipe’s Thursday edition. And, conveniently, his club are considering a sale this summer.
Currently playing for Nancy, central defender Diagne has impressed Stoke, Middlesbrough, and Reading as his club finished second to bottom of France’s Ligue 1, and were relegated.
Despite Nancy finishing second from bottom, 8 clubs conceded more goals than them, which suggests 23 year old Diagne was part of a defence which wasn’t too bad.
The price Nancy want for the right footed defender is €4m, which L’Equipe believe may even be revised downwards.
In terms of attracting the player, Stoke would have the advantage right now as a Premier League club, and Reading will have to wait and see if they join the Potters in the top flight, or Middlesbrough in the Championship.
The level of fee should trouble none of the clubs.
