Everton missed out on signing Manchester United youngster Hannibal Mejbri as Sevilla managed to turn his head and convince him Spain was a better destination.

That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who continue to insist that the Red Devils had preferred to send the youngster to Everton this month.

The newspaper explains that the Andalusian club reached an agreement for the loan of the midfielder, which will include an option for them to buy him.

Director of football Victor Orta proved to be key to the transfer, convincing the player that Sevilla were the best option for him despite his club having ‘pushed for the player to be loaned to Everton’.

He managed to persuade Hannibal, who wants to relaunch his career after a disappointing few months, to ignore the interest from the Toffees and he ultimately kept his word despite Everton’s efforts.

Manchester United had, presumably, been reluctant to send Hannibal to the Spanish club after their previous dealings, namely the very unsuccessful loan spell Anthony Martial spent at the club in 2022.

They saw Everton as a better destination for him, perhaps preferring for the youngster to get Premier League football under his belt, but Orta convinced him otherwise and a deal has now been done.
