Barcelona are on course to complete the signing of Vitor Eduardo da Silva, better known as Vitao, according to Tuesday’s edition of Marca.

The Spanish newspaper say the 19 year old will be part of the ‘future’ of the club’s defence, and a deal is nearly completed.

It’s explained that Palmeiras’ sporting director Alexandre Mattos has travelled to Barcelona with the aim of completing the details of the transfer.

Andre Cury is said to be the man behind the deal, with Barcelona’s talent spotter helping the Catalan club get a real hold on the Brazilian market.

He won’t go into the club’s first team next season, with Ernesto Valverde having something of an embarrassment of riches in central defence. Instead, Vitao could join the B team or be sent out on loan elsewhere.

Marca don’t mention it, but this looks like it could be part of a wider Barcelona plan to sign players who can then bring in a profit down the line.

It’s something the Catalan media have been reporting on for a while, with Barca seeing the idea as a good source of income.
