Carles Gil’s exit from Aston Villa is something which right now looks likely… but slow. Over the past couple of weeks there’s been several reports of interest from Spain, and even a claim that Sevilla wanted to sign him against the wishes of manager Unai Emery.
As it stands the most likely destination, according to Plaza Deportivo, is Real Betis, and that’s largely because of Miguel Torrecilla. Betis’ new sporting director is said to be the one pushing for Carles Gil, and he’s compiled very good reports on the player.
It’s accepted in Spain that Aston Villa are against a straight sale and want a loan instead, still seeing a long term future for Gil at the club. However, nearly every report which acknowledges that, also claims Betis, or another club, would have a buying option in the deal, which wouldn’t make a great deal of sense unless Villa could veto it.
Valencia stand to get 10% from any permanent sale, whenever that may happen.
