We’ve got a bit of a weird one for Burnley fans today, coming straight out of Spain, and involving both Liverpool and Manchester City.

After years of faithful service, Diego Godin decided it was time to try a new adventure abroad, swapping Atlético Madrid for Inter in Italy.

This, along with Lucas Hernandez’s move to Bayern Munich, leaves Diego Simeone in a bit of a defensive pickle, meaning he will need some centre-backs to come in over the next few months.

AS in Spain have an article on Tuesday, relayed Cadena Ser, who had a chat with members of Olocip, a company describing themselves as “Pioneers in the research and application of artificial intelligence in the sports and professional world”.

During that conversation, Olocip suggested a number of players who could replace the Uruguayan at Atlético Madrid based on their data, and one of the names that came up was James Tarkowski.

The 26-year-old has been instrumental to Sean Dyche’s plans at Turf Moor over the past couple of seasons, and performed to the point where Liverpool were briefly linked in January.

AS mention Liverpool interest in their article, also adding that Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City have taken a look at the twice capped England international.

We’ve had a quick look around, and we can’t find anything recent in England backing up this alleged interest from the Cityzens, meaning we’re a bit confused where the Spanish newspaper will have got it from.

Tarkowski was linked with Manchester City back in December 2017, but it does seem a bit too old to just casually drop in a mid-2019 article.

Our guess is they were just trying to talk up Tarkowski to the Atlético Madrid fanbase reading their article, and stating Liverpool and Pep Guardiola’s club like the player will certainly do that these days.
