Nico Gonzalez may not be a name known to many Manchester United fans, but their City rivals may well remember it.

In November 2016 it was claimed the Barcelona youngster was set to sign for Manchester City. A big reason for that was his father, Fran (yes, the Deportivo La Coruna legend and former Spanish international), was working as a coach under Pep Guardiola.

Despite being just 14 years of age at the time, Nico could still have made the move because it would be for family reasons, to join his father in Manchester.

A move didn’t materialise and Thursday’s edition of Sport reports Nico could be moving to Manchester United. Barcelona had been been confident of keeping the player but ‘everything has changed in recent weeks’.

The midfielder is now 16 years of age and can move to Manchester whether his father is there or not, Sport suggest Fran has now ended his City spell but his knowledge of the city is helping a potential transfer.

So is David Harrison.

Who?

It’s explained that Harrison was a senior scout at Manchester City when Fran joined but he moved to United a few months later, the pair have kept a good relationship since.

Manchester United are considered the ‘main candidate’ to complete a move for Nico Gonzalez, and he hasn’t been included in any Barcelona youth squad for next season yet, given his future is in doubt.
