Valencia fullback João Cancelo was the subject of a couple of rumours this weekend. The English media claimed he’s wanted by Tottenham Hotspur to replace Kylie Walker, and Italian papers said he could be brought to replace Dani Alves at Juventus.
And it shouldn’t be a coincidence that there are more claims of a transfer, as Spanish outlet Super Deporte has a story saying the player wants out, and his agent would be looking for offers.
Valencia weren’t really keen on selling, especially because he’s been having a good pre-season, but it’s claimed that Cancelo’s decision is made. He doesn’t like the position that manager Marcelino wants him to play, and even though he’ll respect the club in case he needs to stay, he prefers to go out.
It’s Jorge Mendes who wants to bring Valencia the best possible bid, with the Spanish side currently demanding €25m for the player. They paid €15m for him a couple of seasons ago.
Cancelo has even been linked to a Barcelona move, but that’s ruled out now that they’ve signed Ruben Semedo. Both Juventus and Tottenham are clearly in search of a right-back, and the 23-year-old is one of the few available in the market.
