Over the years, Barcelona have seen a few of their young talents leave the club and make a move away from the Catalan club.
To avoid a similar situation this summer, the La Liga winners have tied down a few of their academy products to new contracts which include a hefty release clauses.
However, Barcelona were unable to convince Robert Navarro that his future lies at the club. Today’s edition of Sport claims the young midfielder is set to leave La Masia and has “chosen” AS Monaco as his next destination.
Navarro, 16, has been attracting interest clubs in England, including Arsenal. Manchester City were the first club to make an approach to sign the teenager. The Premier League winners were close to securing his services, but Sport say the fear of Fifa sanctions saw them end their interest in signing the player.
After City, Arsenal joined the race to sign the midfielder. Raül Sanllehí joined Arsenal as head of football relations and he wanted the Gunners to sign Navaroo. However, the north London club’s offer, both sport and economic wise, was not better than what he received from Monaco.
The Ligue 1 outfit signed Jordi Mboula from Barcelona and he was one of the key people to convince Navarro to sign for Monaco.
It’s previously been reported in the Catalan media that Barca are getting more than a little annoyed with how Monaco are approaching their young players.
