If you thought Antoine Griezmann to Manchester United was dead, never to rear its head again, then you clearly didn’t bargain on Don Balon.
The Spanish rumour website, which fires big claims out machine-gun-style, reckons Jose Mourinho is pushing Manchester United back into the battle for the Frenchman.
In Spain it’s been considered for a while that Griezmann to Barcelona is a sure thing, and the story had gone a little quiet.
But Don Balon say Mourinho has instructed the leadership of Manchester United, Ed Woodward, to enter the fight and see if he can get the €100m signing.
Griezmann’s release clause returns down to €100m in the summer, and the price looks reasonable in the current market. Don Balon also point out that there’d be no trouble giving him a big pay rise at Old Trafford.
Regardless of Don Balon having a track record that even The Sun would turn their nose up at, the idea itself also seems out of time.
The only way Griezmann to Manchester United makes sense again is if Mourinho is planning to see the back of one or two of his attackers.
Man United efforts to sign Umtiti are big news.
Constant meetings, would pay €60m clause, and €9m (after tax) wages.
Mourinho making repeated calls to convince defender.
Umtiti wants Barca renewal and for them to match the €9m.
