Earlier this week you may remember that we covered a report claiming Manchester United have identified Atlético Madrid midfielder Saúl Ñíguez as a potential signing.

Mundo Deportivo claimed that United were looking at the Spanish midfielder as a replacement for Paul Pogba.

This report was then picked up in England, with several newspapers covering the story and adding their information.

One newspaper, for example, claimed Saul could end up costing Manchester United €150m as that was the release clause Atlético put in the eight-year deal he signed back in 2017.

Mundo Deportivo have since seen those claims, and they’ve got different information to what’s being said in England.

As far as they are concerned, Saul’s release clause is €100m, so €50m less than the number that has been reported by the English newspapers.

This is information that Atlético Madrid have not confirmed, though, which the newspaper says means the information should be taken with ‘all the reservations in the world’.

Indeed, they ascertain that Diego Simeone wants to keep Saul and there is ‘no doubt about that’, suggesting Atlético would put up a fight should Manchester United ever come calling.
