Southampton and West Ham are eyeing up a move for Wolfsburg’s Josip Brekalo this summer, although he would prefer to move to Serie A.
That’s according to Calciomercato.it, who say the forward has ‘received several calls from abroad’ about his availability.
Brekalo is currently on loan at Torino in Serie A and has been a ‘protagonist’ for them throughout the campaign.
They have a €10m option to turn his loan deal into a permanent one but can’t afford that and have been trying to negotiate Wolfsburg down for the last few weeks.
That’s something the Germans aren’t entertaining, so the door has opened for other suitors, such as Southampton and West Ham.
CM.it report that ‘concrete moves’ have been made from clubs outside of Italy, and both Southampton and West Ham have ‘expressed their interest’ in the 23-year-old.
The website explains that those interested in Brekalo have either made ‘draft offers’ or a ‘formal request for information’ but don’t make clear which the Premier League duo have done.
Brekalo would prefer to stay in Italy, but so far, no Italian club has shown themselves as ready to ‘sink the blow’ and sign him.
That could change in the coming weeks, and there is no rush, although Wolfsburg do not seem willing to go below €10m in any eventual deal.
