Southampton striker Guido Carrillo has admitted he was left ‘hurt’ by the club’s decision to delay his move to Leganés in the summer.
The Saints forward re-joined the La Liga side for a second loan spell in the summer transfer window, having also spent last season with them.
For most of the summer, it appeared he would not get his wish to return, with Southampton spending most of the window attempting to secure a permanent exit for their former club-record signing.
In the end that was not feasible and thus another loan deal was sanctioned, but he admits it hurt him for the club to delay for so long.
“It’s true, that hurt me, but it was merely a decision of the English team,” he told AS.
“I already had the decision to come to Leganés. I said my bit, but the Southampton leaders didn’t want to let me out until the last day.”
Carrillo’s second spell with the Spanish side has not exactly been a success, with him managing four goals and two assists in 23 games so far this season.
He’ll be hoping that improves in the coming months, with Martin Braithwaite’s move to Barcelona having afforded him more prominence in the team.
Regardless, he’s set to return to Southampton at the end of his loan spell, but he wants to stay in Spain if possible.
“It’s still too soon. I’d rather be focused on the team,” he added.
“Everything that’s coming up I’d rather put off until later. It’s true that I have to go back to England.
“I have a year left. But we’ll see how it goes here. And how it goes on. I have no idea.
“I’ve felt very comfortable here. I’ve been treated like at home… but talking about it, there’s still a way to go and things to do. We’ll think about it later…”
