Southampton loanee Kevin Danso looks set to return to parent club Augsburg this summer, so long as he is offered a chance of regular game time at the club.
Danso arrived at Southampton on deadline day of the summer transfer window as Ralph Hassenhüttl looked to add defensive reinforcements to his squad.
The Saints have an option to turn his loan deal into a permanent one in the summer, but according to Augsburger Allgemeine that is looking unlikely to happen.
The newspaper has taken a look at the situation of the players Augsburg currently have out on loan and what the future may hold for them this summer.
They explain that Danso’s time at Southampton so far has not gone as well as he had ‘hoped’ it would, with him managing just ten appearances and 601 minutes of football thus far.
After being a regular under Hassenhüttl initially, he’s fallen down the pecking order as a result of injuries, and now it looks ‘unlikely’ that Southampton will exercise their option to buy him which stands at €11m.
Instead, they state that Danso would ‘probably like’ a return to the German club if those in charge offer him proper opportunities.
That is likely to be on offer, with Augsburg happy to let loanee Tin Jedvaj return to Bayer Leverkusen, while they are also actively looking to sell Reece Oxford and Marek Suchy.
That would leave them short at centre back, providing Danso with the chance of first-team football he’s found hard to come by at Southampton.
