Rachid Ghezzal has looked like a bargain signing ever since it became clear a Lyon renewal was unlikely.
A transfer was possible last summer, and Everton went in strongly to try and seal a deal for Ghezzal, but the Toffees were rejected, and Lyon’s attacker seemed determined to run his contract down.
Friday’s edition of L’Equipe looks at recent strong efforts from AS Monaco and how the Ligue 1 champions are quickly becoming the likeliest destination. However, Southampton get a mention, and it sounds like the Premier League club haven’t given up.
Stoke City and Southampton have been ‘particularly’ prominent in their chase of Ghezzal this year, with L’Equipe saying the Saints recently met the player’s entourage in France.
Southampton haven’t been entirely convinced after that meeting but have continued to question whether they should go through with a deal. Time is running out, and L’Equipe say Ghezzal has ‘no more time to lose’.
With Monaco moving forward, and Southampton stuttering, the French principality club are the likelier destination.
Should the Saints now be more convinced Ghezzal is the man for them, and Monaco interest may help that, then they need to move very quickly and, this time, surely.
