Let’s start from the beginning.

On Wednesday, French website Foot Mercato came up with a story saying Fenerbahce are interested in Luan from Grêmio. They said the Turkish side would be joining Sampdoria in the race for him.

Luan has previously been linked to Liverpool, and that’s why the media added the Reds when covering these reports. The Mirror said Jurgen Klopp’s side would be ‘battling with Fenerbahce’ for the attacker.

This gossip arrived to Brazil, where southern outlet Zero Hora covered these claims of a Liverpool battle. As a local website, they’ve added some interesting insight they have from Grêmio.

Zero Hora say the club have only received two bids for Luan so far, both from Sampdoria. One of €12m and another of €18m, with the latter still being analysed. Their idea is to sell for around €24m, and only let him move to Europe in December, after the end of the season. Zero Hora doesn’t have any info on Liverpool’s interest.

Luan has scored 14 goals this season and has been in great form, playing in several attacking positions. Grêmio are going well in the league, Copa Libertadores, and Copa do Brasil, so it’s hard for them to let their biggest star go before the end of the season.

With Liverpool not bidding so far, and a source telling us the interest was ‘just smoke’, it’s hard to believe they are in a genuine fight. But Luan’s form is good enough to attract big sides in Europe, so we can’t rule what is now speculation later becoming reality.
