Southampton and Arsenal officials were part of an ‘English Armada’ to watch Sporting beat Vitoria Guimaraes 5-0 on Saturday evening, report Record.
The match was in Guimaraes so not quite as easy to attend as the usual Lisbon games, being more than three hours outside the Portuguese capital.
Manchester United also had a ‘spy’ at the match, but Jose Mourinho’s club send someone to near enough every match in Portugal’s top flight and have been doing so for a while.
Arsenal seem to attend at least one game a weekend and this was a good one to pick, and Southampton have been regular watchers in Portugal since Ronald Koeman upped the club’s scouting in the country.
Adrien Silva impressed for the away side, and is very keen on a move to the Premier League this summer. Gelson Martins, also rumoured to be of interest to Premier League clubs, was another player to shine.
Man of the Match, as chosen by Record, was Bruno Fernandes, with the 22 year old attacking midfielder scoring twice in a fantastic performance for Sporting.
