Leeds United’s interest in River Plate defender Lucas Martinez Quarta continues to be one of the main transfer rumours in the Argentine media.
Local outlets have been publishing articles about this chase on a daily basis, and the story became a subject on live TV today.
TyC Sports show Sportia managed to interview Quarta’s agent Gustavo Goni, who had a chat about the player’s current situation at River Plate.
The representative was directly asked about the rumours which have been linking the player to Leeds United, but claimed that no official offers have been made so far.
“If it were for what comes out in the media, we’d have already sold him several times. You have to be patient, this has just started. England ended only yesterday,” Gustavo Goni told TyC Sports.
“No club were going to be thinking about signings when many were playing for important things. I think that in the next few days the wheel will start to move and then we’ll see where we stand.”
Goni didn’t say anything directly about Leeds United, although he confirmed that Real Betis are one of the clubs who’ve been chasing Quarta. He also claimed that the 24-year-old is at the perfect age to make the move to Europe.
“Of the clubs that are spoken, all are seductive. Betis is in the first division in Spain, as well as in Italy, England and France, but I don’t want to give proper names when there are no manifest interests on the table because it would harm any situation and we would be talking about something that is not true.”
TyC says Real Betis could offer US$12m for the defender. That’s still far from the US$22m of his release clause, but still, that should be attractive enough for River Plate to accept.
