On Tuesday, just before Paris Saint-Germain were set to face Benfica in the Champions League, a claim emerged in Spain, soon to be backed up in France, that Kylian Mbappé wanted to leave the Ligue 1 side in January.

This led to Real Madrid and Liverpool being the two clubs linked with a move for the Frenchman, as they are the two to have been suggested as the likeliest landing spots for him in the past.

It was also stated that Paris Saint-Germain weren’t overly keen to deal with the La Liga side, leaving Anfield as the remaining destination.

Le Parisien, for example, recently claimed Liverpool had the means to offer somewhere over €150m for Mbappé, and while that might be the case, it remained a large figure for the Reds to spend, especially midway through the season.

It appears that is the case, as Jeunes Footeux in France are claiming that the rumour sending Mbappé to Liverpool ‘made the English club’s board smile’, adding that the Premier League side ‘clearly don’t have the funds to sign’ the forward.

That’s because buying him would require an ‘abyssal cost of a few hundred million euros’, as between the transfer fee, various fees and his wages, the belief is signing Mbappé would cost around €500m over five years, and that’s with him lowering his salary.

With that in mind, Jeunes Footeux state it’s ‘simply unthinkable’ for Liverpool, and we would tend to agree with them.
