Tottenham star Richarlison has been urged to forget about receiving praise and recognition from pundits in Brazil, and simply focus on what his manager and teammates think.
The forward was in impressive form again for Brazil over the international break, bagging two goals in the win over and Ghana and another in the win over Tunisia.
That followed strikes against Korea, a double against Bolivia and another against Chile, making him one of Brazil’s top goalscorers over the last year.
He’s a firm favourite for manager Tite, who is yet to decide who will be his first-choice striker at the World Cup in Qatar.
The Tottenham man recently spoke out on the matter, admitting that he hoped his latest haul of goals could convince some of his detractors of his abilities.
Journalist Julio Gomes thinks that is a waste of time, though, and believes he just needs to continue doing what he’s doing.
“The thing is, Richarlison may not be a technical master, but he’s a guy who simply delivers,” he told UOL.
“I noticed some statements from him, after the national team’s games against Ghana and Tunisia, asking for more respect and trust. Forget it, Richarlison! What matters is the respect and trust that the coach and teammates have.
“The recent comparison of a European newspaper with Ronaldo is an aberration. But look, they do have something in common.
“Both play much more for the national team than for the clubs, they are players who seem to change when they wear the shirt.
“And that’s not to say that Richarlison didn’t do the job at Fluminense, Watford and Everton and doesn’t do it now at Tottenham.
“On the contrary, he is already an idol of the crowd for his delivery, his race and the ball. But, in the selection, he is another level.”
