If Gazzetta dello Sport on Tuesday are to be believed, Inter have written down Toby Alderweireld’s name as a potential target this summer.
However, before that scenario even gets considered, a very unlikely sale would need to take place: that of Milan Skriniar.
The Slovakian defender, already impressing with Sampdoria, saw his stock rise massively last season under Luciano Spalletti, and was allegedly the subject of a €65m Manchester City bid in January.
The Italian newspaper state that in order for a sale to take place, clubs would have to offer around €80m, which would then force them into looking at a plan B for their defence.
That’s where the Tottenham centre-back would come in, potentially teaming up with two other of his good friends in Radja Nainggolan and Mousa Dembélé, who is also a target for the Serie A side this summer, at the San Siro.
Gazzetta point out this is purely a ‘suggestion’ for the time being, as no club has made an €80m move for Skriniar just yet, but it’s worth keeping in mind if Manchester United or someone else decide to test Inter’s resolve.
As for Tottenham in all of this, Mauricio Pochettino’s side have seemingly been open to Alderweireld’s departure this summer, should they get the right price for him.
The 29-year-old only featured 21 times in all competitions for Spurs last season.
