Now a regular in Slaven Bilic’s side at West Ham, Pedro Obiang is quickly showing why West Ham were willing to pay £5m for him from Sampdoria last season.

Technically gifted with a decent set of defensive skills, the 24-year-old has been one of the more consistent performers for the club this season, and teams around Europe are taking notice.

Corriere dello Sport report on Friday that AS Roma have been looking at the West Ham man as a potential signing for their January transfer window, and his time in Serie A would be key were the bid to end up being successful.

Already looking for a winger, the club are said to also be looking for a central midfielder this winter, but they would only buy one if he ‘didn’t disturb the balance of the side’.

However, Corriere dello Sport do admit that any transfer could be difficult as the fee required from West Ham would be higher than what Roma would expect to pay for a January signing, with the club looking at ‘low cost’ signings.

This isn’t the first time this interest has been reported, with reports last month suggesting the same, while Fiorentina were also linked with a move for the midfielder.

Pedro, who spent seven years at Sampdoria following his move from Atlético Madrid in 2008, has made 15 appearances in all competitions for West Ham this season, starting and completing eight of their last nine.
