A week or so ago, we covered a story in Corriere dello Sport that Daniel Sturridge, in need of game time at Liverpool, had offered himself to Inter in Italy.
This came off the back of Theo Walcott’s apparent attempts to secure a move to AC Milan, with the Serie A side eventually saying no.
We haven’t really heard much about the Sturridge story since, suggesting there wasn’t much in it, but a new story linking the Liverpool forward to Italy has emerged, and it’s sending him to Napoli.
Il Mattino are the ones running it, and they believe it, with Cristiano Giuntoli, the club’s director of football, considering a move for the England international.
The problem here remains the asking price Liverpool have set for Sturridge, and while no figure is mentioned, our guess is it’s higher than the €25m Napoli were prepared to pay for Simone Verdi.
The only way this could happen remains through a loan, with the Reds asking for ‘reasonable numbers’ over the coming four months or so.
It would certainly suit all parties if Napoli paid some of the forward’s wages and gave him game time, but it remains to be seen if Liverpool would be happy with a temporary deal.
Corriere dello Sport’s report last week suggested they wouldn’t.
We’ll have to see if this one disappears as quickly as the Inter story before commenting any further on it.
