Brighton and Hove Albion’s deal to sell Deniz Undav to VfB Stuttgart includes a list of secret clauses, which could see them earning more this season.
That’s according to SportBILD, who provide details on the secret clauses included in the deal this summer and how they could benefit Brighton.
Undav joined Stuttgart on a permanent basis in the summer after months of speculation about it happening after his successful loan spell with them last season.
It took long, drawn out negotiations between the two sides to get an eventual deal done, with both playing poker while Undav publicly made his stance clear.
Stuttgart eventually got their man when ‘Brighton gave in’, accepting a fixed transfer fee of €27m plus €3m in possible bonus payments. That is a record for Stuttgart.
SportBILD now know the clause details and have shared them. According to them, if Undav scores 20 goals this season, another €500,000 will got to Brighton. He managed 19 times last season.
There have also been clauses agreed for the World Cup and Champions League. If he is in the squad for the 2026 tournament, Stuttgart have to pay €500,000. If he were to win the Champions League, that would earn Brighton €1m.
They’re a little ambitious but the striker already has two goals this season and is a regular in the Germany squad, so there’s every chance of them being met at some point.
Either way they, and the Champions League clause, are in place and it will be interesting to see if the Seagulls are ever paid out down the line.
