It appears that after the failed deal for Pablo Fornals that is set to go in front of FIFA in hope that the Spaniard can go to Real Betis, there could also be a meeting for West Ham United’s Saïd Benrahma, whose move to Lyon seemingly fell through at the last minute.

However, L’Equipe on Friday explain that Lyon are ‘considering an appeal to FIFA’ regarding the transfer, and there are ‘reasons to believe in a positive outcome’.

This comes after the Ligue 1 side had a chat with Real Betis on Friday morning, and they are considering a ‘joint appeal’ to FIFA, especially since West Ham are still trying to get the transfer done, blaming a ‘computer bug’ for their failure to register the required documents.

Down Lyon’s end, ‘everything was done in good time and according to the rules’, meaning they were just waiting for the Hammers to sort out bureaucratic matters down their end to ensure Benrahma would finish the season at Lyon in a €20m package including a €15m option to buy.

The game is not ‘totally lost’ for this transfer, because the French club can ask FIFA’s legal department for a ‘period of grace’, with a file ‘proving that everything was ready’, and that it was ‘simply a case of administrative negligence’ from the Premier League side.

Those who are familiar with this type of appeal belief it is a ‘good bet’, even if nothing is certain, but it remains Lyon’s only chance of getting the West Ham player at this stage.
