As January fast approaches, the future of Christian Eriksen is only going to become a more prevalent issue.
With the Danish midfielder seemingly intent on not signing a new deal at Tottenham, where he could end up is a hot topic.
Real Madrid have long been linked with his signature, and recent reports even indicated that a move to the Bernabeu was all tied up.
However, they may have been a little wide of the mark as El Español say there are three reasons why the Spanish giants are currently holding off on signing Eriksen from Tottenham.
The first of those is the form of Federico Valverde. The young midfielder has been something of a revelation for Madrid this season, putting in a series of impressive performances.
He’s ‘convinced’ everyone at the club of his quality, and that’s made the club doubt whether they need another midfielder.
Then there’s Zinedine Zidane and his love for Paul Pogba. The Frenchman has made no secret of his desire to sign the Manchester United midfielder and ‘prefers his compatriot’ ahead of any other midfield signing.
Lastly, there’s the form of Martin Odegaard and Dani Ceballos. Odegaard, in particular, has impressed with Real Sociedad and that could see him return to Real Madrid before the end of his two-year loan.
As such, there wouldn’t be a space for Eriksen, particularly as Ceballos will ‘surely come back’ as well.
Those three issues leave Madrid, and particularly Florentino Pérez, pondering whether Eriksen is worth signing and adds another potential twist to this never-ending transfer saga.
