As the investigation over Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali remains being one of the main topics in the Italian sports media, local reports continue to be very curious on the potential developments this story could have.

As Tuttosport (via TuttoMercatoWeb) interviewed a sports lawyer, they wondered whether the Magpies could now get a discount on that signing, as they’ve just spent €64m to land the player.

The story mentions that Tonali could not be returned to AC Milan, as he’s fully registered by Newcastle, but they wonder whether the recent outcomes could still impact on the financials.

Speaking to Tuttosport, Mattia Grassani claims it’d be vital to first know whether the Rossoneri were aware of Tonali’s betting habits before negotiating his sale with Newcastle.

“Let’s say that the longer the duration of the stoppage, the greater could be the re-determination, downwards, of the transfer value because the possibility of benefiting from the player for the entire agreed period would be lost. But for me it remains a stretch to imagine such a case unless it is proven that the club knew.”

This topic has been discussed in the Italian media for a few days now. Earlier this week, Radio Rossonera also spoke to a lawyer, Emiliano Cardena, who shared a very similar opinion on the matter.

It starts being a consensus now that in case Milan were aware of the situation, then Newcastle deserve a discount.

But that will have to be proven.
