Neymar at Chelsea? What could have been!
The Brazilian may have not yet hit the highest of heights expected of him, but he’s still one of the best footballers on the planet and had he made different decisions things could have had a different ending.
One of those decisions is snubbing Chelsea.
The Blues have a long history of working with Brazilian agents and trying to get deals over the line, with Chelsea often coming out on the right side.
Wagner Ribeiro, who used to represent Neymar, has been speaking in South America about the London club’s effort to sign the current PSG star when he was younger.
Chelsea wanted to get in there before others, so made a move just as Neymar was breaking through on the national stage.
AS quote Ribeiro as saying: “There were many calls for him. I received an official offer from Chelsea the day Neymar debuted with the Brazilian team in 2010. They made an offer, we studied it, but in the end we didn’t decide anything. On that occasion, we transferred it to Neymar’s father and the player himself. Then came other offers from Bayern Munich and Juventus, with whom I had a meeting in Turin.”
Real Madrid were keen on signing Neymar at the time, and it feels like they’ve been trying to get a transfer done ever since.
Barcelona were also working on a deal, and the Brazilian arrived at the Camp Nou in 2013, in a deal that would see a series of court cases follow it.
