For over a week, the Italian sport media were very confident Nikola Milenkovic would be leaving Fiorentina and signing for West Ham this month, and they had good reason for that optimism.
The defender has less than a year left on his current contract and doesn’t want to sign a renewal. The Hammers and La Viola were so close on price that it was thought they’d agree at around €15-16m.
All that was left was agreeing agent commissions, something which was thought to just be details on the transfer. The proposed deal was good for everyone, so for it to collapse on agent commissions didn’t seem likely for the Italian media.
Well, it would appear they were wrong. Firenze Viola report West Ham have walked away from the deal having failed to agree what commission agent Fali Ramadani would get, and how that would be paid.
The disagreement on how that would be paid is potentially due to the Premier League club being asked to pay all the commission.
There are now even suggestions Milenkovic could renew, although it’s once again made clear he hasn’t been keen on that. He may stay and leave for free in a year, when he could join Juventus.
Tottenham are named as an option for this summer, yet it’s thought they have other targets ahead of the Serbian.
